This city of 15,695 inhabitants was founded on April 1, 1874.
The flag of Hormingueros is based upon the blue and white colours
and the design of the municipal CoA. The globe topped by the
cross is the sign of royalty and represents the realm of the
Christ over the world. This is traditional attribute to be found
on iconographical representations of Nuestra Señora [Sen~ora --
Our Lady] de Monserrate, since both the image of the Holy Virgin
and that of the infant Jesus [show?] this globe in his hands.
