This city of 35,369 inhabitants was founded in 1927. The flag
uses the colours and stripes ("franjas") of the COA.
The white replaces the silver from the shield. The green
represents the colour of the coconut tree palm leaves surrounding
the shield of Cataño [Catan~o]. Visually speaking [!], this is
used to distinguish our flag from the Greek and Uruguayan ones.
The flag of Cataño was officially adopted by a resolution of the
Honorable Municipal Assembly of Cataño in an ordinary session
under the presidence of Hon. Alcalde Don José [Jose'] Akvarez
Brunet on September 5, 1974.
