Amal

[Amal Party (Lebanon)]
by Frank George Valoczy

I found in an old Time magazine (June 1985, with the cover article being about the TWA flight hijacked to Beirut) a picture of a masked man holding the flag of the Shi'ite Amal group. The photo is in colour. I made a GIF of it.

Hezbollah

Party of God

[Hezbollah Party (Lebanon)]
by António Martins

I remember having seen on TV a Hezb Allah flag. It was yellow. In the center there was the name Hezb Allah (something like God's party) in Arab writing (kufi style). Around the name were all the things you would associate with a revolutionary movement, I cannot remember any details, but it certainly included guns.

Harald Müller, 8 May 1996

I have seen a flag supposedly that of Hezbollah. It is yellow with a green device (probably a Kalashnikov, a book and an Arabic inscription) in the centre near the bottom. The flag is green fringed.

The Hamas (or Islamic Jihad = the Islamic holy war) is a Palestinian group. Most of the Palestinians belong to the Islamic Suna. The Hezballa (= Party of God) is Lebanese and Islamic Shia'a. Even sometimes considered by mistake as Palestinians, they are genuine Lebanese. The Shia'a has also another group in Lebanon which called El-Amal, whose leader Nabia Beri is a minister in the Lebanese government.

In the Israeli newspaper "Yediot Akhronot" of 18th August 1999, a photo taken at the funeral of one of the Hizbullah leaders in Lebanon shows their flag (yellow LOB) on the coffin and hoisted, and also another red LOB.

Anonymous, 18 August 1999

I made the Hezbollah GIF from the emblem forwarded by Costa Siderides [found in a Hezbollah website], but it is not like the ones sent by the anonymous contributor; I guess that variety rules here, too.

António Martins, 19 August 1999

This flag exist but I believe that with green logo is the official one.

Cedar as in National Flag

The flag of the Kataeb Phalanges Libanaises from the Kataeb Party website. The Kataeb is a Christian party. This is the party of the Jamail family and has a rich history, so its flag may have changed during the ages. The Christians had two parties, the Jamail family one and the Shamun family one.

Dov Gutterman, 15 March 1999 and 11 May 1999

I have GIFfed both flags with a darker green than the one in the national flag, according to the website image of the party flag (I may be wrong here).

António Martins, 11 May 1999

Atthe Kataeb Party website there is a stylized cedar (top green, bottom purplish), surrounded by Arabic texts. I have downloaded it and fooled around, with striking results: white easily becomes black, blue becomes green, yellow, etc. On that page it is green on white. Clicking on it leads to a page with this picture of Pierre Gemayel and in the background a white flag with a stylized green cedar. The flag at FOTW is a combination of the Lebanese flag and the Kataeb flag, with the Kataeb flag in wrong colours.

Jarig Bakker, 6 October 1999

Lebanon Christians

[Lebanon Christians]
by Ivan Sache

In the Flags of Aspirant Peoples chart appears "30. Lebanon Christians". White field with a schematic cedar (one green triangle over two green trapezes over a brown pentagon). The schematic cedar is similar to those used by the Kataeb Phalangist Party. It looks rather like a party logo-flag.

National Liberal Party

Ahrar

[National Liberal Party (Lebanon)]
from the NLP website

The National Liberal Party (Ahrar) is a Christian Party of the Chamoun family. Flag from their website.

Dov Gutterman, 5 September 1999

Phalanx Party

[Phalanx Party (Lebanon)]
by Ivan Sache

Smith 1975, pp. 340-341 ("Symbols in politics") shows "Phalanx (Lebanon): White field charged with a black stylized cedar".

Socialist Progressist Party

[Socialist Progressist Party (Lebanon)]
by Jaume Ollé

The Socialist Progressist Party is a mostly Druze party founded by Kamal Joumblat, under the Arabic name of Hizb el-Takadumi el-Ishtiraki.
