Description of the flag

Orange stylized Katakana character of Na of Nagano in white disc on orange field. The emblem expresses mountain reflected in a lake as well. Orange stands for the sun and white for snow of Nagano. Adopted 1967-03-20.

Nagano City flag

In 1907, Nagano city conducted a study to find an appropriate symbol for the city. In October, 1907, the "Maruhachi" (circle 8) symbol was selcted by the city assembly. This symbol reportedly was used by the Owari Tokugawa clan. The symbol has been included on the city flag.
