Until 1948 the Australian Air Force Ensign was the Royal Air Force ensign (i.e. ensign of the British Air Force). In 1948, a light-blue ensign with a roundel in the lower fly was adopted, with a gold southern cross on the fly. In 1982, the stars were changed to white and a kangaroo was added to the roundel.

In both Barraclough and Pedersen the roundels are occupying the whole fly, although in the text Pedersen says about the RAF flag that the roundel is in the lower fly. BTW this flag was adopted in 1918.

From 1921 til 1935 the RAAF used the same as the RAF

Until 1948, the RAF Ensign was used and the RAAF Ensign adopted that year had white stars
