Suffering Christ

Suffering Christ (Standing with hands tied, cruciform halo, blood, purple robe with red cloak).

Wood, gesso, paint; fabric clothing; carved eyes, no lashes, wig; 5".

The figure stands on plain plank of wood. It is not the work of a skillful artist. The hands are outsized and blood is represented symbolically by red paint in stripes across the knuckles and joints of the hands and the tips of the toes. But the flesh tones are good, some veins are detailed, and the shaping of the face is rather fine.

Location: Glass case on a white and gold altar midway along the north wall of the nave.
