FROM CUBA

Program of Psalms for the 40 day fast

Angel Pablo Polanco, Cooperative of Independent Journalists

Havana, June 4, 1999 – Doctor Oscar Elías Biscet González, member of the executive board of the Lawton Foundation for Human Rights, demonstrating his profound faith in God, has made public a document with the program of psalms to be read twice daily during a fast of 40 days, which will be initiated by the members of various organizations on June 7 at 10 in the morning.

The text of the document follows:

"Havana, June 4, 1999-06-04"

"To the religious leaders, and people of good will of Cuba and the world.

Priests, rabbis, pastors, and ministers, you who guide the children of God along the path of truth, who predicate repentance as salvation of the souls and criticize evil, I ask you to join us spiritually, a group of Cubans inside and outside of the island, to appeal earnestly to God and with many prayers plead to our Lord to free us from our afflictions. If only God grants us our petitions and establishes in my country: justice and the functioning of the fear of God. Mercy and truth, that go in front of the countenance of the Lord, to be a people blessed for loving God and to walk in the light of his countenance.

This suplication to God will be during 40 days and nights, where we will fast and sing at 6 in the morning and at 6 in the evening the following psalms:

"June – Week from 7 to 13: Psalm 12 the Just ( 6 a.m. ), Psalm 22 A cry of anguish and a song of praise (6 p.m.)

Week from 14 to 20: Psalm 17 Prayer asking for protection from the oppressors (6 a.m.) Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd (6 p.m.)

Week from 21 to 27: Psalm 24 The King of Glory (6 a.m.), Psalm 27 The Lord is my light and my salvation (6p.m.)

Week from June 28 to July 4: Psalm 28 Prayer asking for help and praise for the answer(6a.m.), Psalm 43 Prayer asking for benediction and liberation, vindicate me and liberate me (6 p.m.)

July – Week from 5 to 11: Psalm Prayer asking for protection from our enemies (6 a.m.), Psalm 57 Prayer asking to be liberated from our persecutors (6 p.m.)

Week from 12 to 18 Psalm 104 God protects His Creation (6 a.m.), Psalm 103

Praise for the benedictions of God (6 p.m.)

"Religious leaders and persons of good volition in Cuba and in the world, sacrifice praises to All Mighty God together with us for the good of the Cubans and of humanity.

It will be a sign and witness to the LORD Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the LORD because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them. Isaiah 19:20

"Thank you very much,
Doctor Oscar Elías Biscet
