A rafter from Cuba drifted to Elliott Key in Biscayne National Park Saturday morning, but his companion on the journey was still missing late in the day.
Luis Armando Cantillo Suarez, 22, was in good condition after a journey that took almost seven days, park officials said. The U.S. Coast Guard joined the Florida Marine Patrol and rangers at Biscayne National Park in a land-and-sea search for the missing rafter, a 22-year-old man whose name was not released.
Park ranger Lisa Garvin said the search was called off at 1:30 p.m. Cantillo was turned over to the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
His traveling companion disappeared some time in the night. When Cantillo "woke up early this morning, the other person was gone," Garvin said.
