Jean Colombe was lacking in imagination when he
illustrated this psalm for he has again shown David
kneeling to invoke God, as suggested by the lines of
the hymn which celebrates the intrepid confidence
of the faithful in the Lord: "One thing I have asked
of the Lord, this I will seek after, that I may dwell in
the house of the Lord all the days of my life... Hear,
O Lord, my voice, with which I have cried to
thee... "
Colombe became a master of this kind of landscape: a body of water flecked with boats, a blue background fading into the distance, and the round
towers of a city or fortification.
