Psalm CI, the fifth Penitential Psalm, expresses the
lamentation of the afflicted: "Hear, O Lord, my
prayer and let my cry come to thee."
The armed
assault on a city by warriors whom we see forcing its
gates symbolizes the insults received by the people of
God and by their leader. "All the day long my
enemies reproached me: and they that praised me
swear against me."
The battle takes place within
Jerusalem; the enemy is shown at the doors of the
fortress erected in the middle of the city.
Like folio 66v,
this illumination by Jean Colombe precisely depicts
weapons and troop movements at the end of the
fifteenth century.
