"Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." The artist interpreted literally the psalm's first verse by representing the construction of a large house, which David shows to his people.
The building is almost completed; one workman carries a heavy stone upstairs on his back while two others finish covering the tiled roof.
