David, kneeling without his crown and covered
with a long blue garment, prays to the Lord, whose
face appears to him amid clouds.
This miniature introduces one of the gradual canticles, psalms sung by
pilgrims climbing toward the holy city: "In my
trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me." A
castle, which is perhaps the King's, rises on the right.
The golden foliage on a blue background reappears
in other miniatures by the Limbourgs. A white bird
decorates one of the two capital letters, and the Duc
de Berry's bear the other.
