At the left David stands facing black Africans, who
are probably symbolic of all mankind.
Above hovers
Christ, hands clasped before His chest, amid clouds
that stand out against a background of gold and blue
squares. The ornamented initial and foliage were,
like the picture, executed at the time of the Duc de Berry.
Under the miniature the text of Psalm VIII praises
the majesty of all creation.
The picture perfectly
illustrates the opening verse: "O Lord our Lord, how
admirable is thy name in the whole earth! For thy
magnificence is elevated above the heavens."
