Toward the end of the manuscript, Jean Colombe's
talent seems to grow. This illustration at the head of
the Office of the Holy Virgin is one of his best and
most enjoyable miniatures.
Standing against a typically French architectural background, Mary throws a side-long glance through half-closed eyes at the
Infant in her arms who grasps her bodice, perhaps in
an attempt to undo it.
She wears a crown, and her bright blonde hair falls onto her blue mantle. Her
high-arched brow is in the fashion of the time.
