Martin C.M. Lee (Lee Chu Ming) Chairman, Democratic Party
of Hong Kong When: 8pm, Friday, March 28, 1997 Where: Chinese American Cultural Center 1269 Forgewood Drive Support Democracy in China (SDC) and Alliance for Hong Kong Chinese in the United States (AHKCUS) present Martin C.M. Lee (Lee Chu Ming), Chairman of Hong Kong's Democratic Party speaking on "The Future of Hong Kong after July 1, 1997". Mr. Lee is a barrister who was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1979. Prior to democratic elections in 1991 Mr. Lee served in the Hong Kong Legislative Council for 6 years as the elected representative of Hong Kong's legal community. In 1995 the Democratic party won 17 of 20 democratically elected seats available, capturing 65% of the popular vote. In August 1995, the 350,000 member American Bar Association awarded Martin Lee its 1995 International Human Rights Award in recognition of extraordinary contributions to human rights, the rule of law and the promotion of justice.
