Note: The "Warao" is a language spoken in Venezuela by a group of natives from the Delta of the Orinoco River, in Delta Amacuro State, known as the Waraos.
The word "Warao", according to the historian Alvaro A. García Castro, means: "Inhabitant of the Marismas" (Waha: marsh, flooding area, low shore. Arao: people, inhabitant). Bigott Magazine. No. 45. Year 1988.
Based in the native census from 1991 in Venezuela, the population of Waraos was 21,125.
