NOTE: Before 1927 the Arabic script was used with additonal letters characteristic of the Turkic languages. From 1927 to 1940 the Latin script wih additonal characters was used.After that the Cyrillic alphabet was introduced. A Latin alphabet has been proposed again due to the independence of Uzbekistan.
