NOTE: "Meänkiele" is a Finnish dialect spoken by a minority of approximately
50,000 people in Sweden. The minority group lives in the northeastern part of
Sweden (Norrbotten district).

"Meänkiele" literally translated means "my
language". The Meänkiele translation of the four Gospels was introduced to
the public recently in the Swedish village of Pajala which is situated
in the border region of Norrbotten district, north of the Arctic circle (see
map). Mr. Bengt
Pohjanen is currently working on the translation of the Apostolic letters and
Psalms
into the Meänkiele dialect. It's of further interest to know that the world's
largest sundial (38.33 m in diameter) can be found in Pajala.
