Holy Week in Jerusalem Italiano - English - Español Links: Saturday | Palm Sunday || Maundy Thursday | Good Friday | Holy Saturday & Easter Sunday Saturday, 12 April 2003 Solemn entry and procession in the Holy Sepulchre The Holy week celebrations in Jerusalem was commenced with the solem entry of the Patriarch into the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre. The Patriarch was received at the entrance of the Basilica by the Franciscan Frairs and he offerd prayers at the Holy Tomb. All the Holy places in the Basilica were visited and venerated in a solem procession which was held immediately thereafter. Help: Click on the photos to enlarge. 1. The procession passes through the Christian Quarter 2. The procession enters the courtyard of the Basilica 3. The superior of the Franciscan Community of the Holy Sepulchre receives the Patriarch, H. B. Michel Sabbah 4. The Patriarch kisses the Stone of Unction. 5. After visiting the Holy Tomb, the Patriarch goes to the Chapel of Apparition from where the procession begins. 6. At the altar of the Chapel of Apparition 7. Faithful waiting for the procession 8. Before the "Prison of Christ" 9. Descending the stairs of the chapel of St. Helena 10. At the place where the Holy Cross was found 11. The Patriarch returns to the Armanian chapel of St. Helena 12. A prayer by Fr. Superior 13. Another moment of prayer before entering Calvary 14. At the altar of the Crucifixion 15. Prayer at the altar of the Sorrowful Mother 16. Returning to the Holy Sepulchre after venerating the Stone of Unction 17. The traditional (three-round) procession around the edifice of the Holy Sepulchre 18. The Patriarch praying before the Holy Tomb 19. The procession passes through the place of apparition of Jesus to Mary Magdalene 20.
