The evening concert

In the evening there was a concert with the thousands of Italian pilgrims and the people of Bethlehem, who reunited again in the Saint Francis Millennium Center in order to hear “La Pieta” of Cerami and Piovani. After greetings from the Father Custos of the Holy Land, Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, O.F.M., Father Ibrahim Faltas, O.F.M., introduced the Palestinian Minister of Religious Affairs who read a message from President Yasser Arafat, absent with an ailment. The Palestinian Minister spoke words of gratitude to the Mayor of Bethlehem, the Honorable Hanna Nasser.
Finally, Stefano Cimicchi, President of the Local Autonomies of Umbria, explained why so many people were involved in this project and in solidarity with the people of Bethlehem.  President Cimicchi was also the promoter  for carrying out the concert of “La Pieta”, a kind of “Stabat Mater”, written by Vincenzo Cerami, set to music by Nicola Piovani, narrated by Gigi Proietti, sung by sopranos Rita Cammarano and Anii Stewart, and accompanied by soloists of the Orchestra “Aracaeli.”
