Mission Statement
1.The 4 Justice and Peace acts within the Maltese Franciscan Province of St. Paul the Apostle and has the prophetic mission to work for Justice and Peace and the Protection of the environment
- first of all in the Province
- in the whole Franciscan Order, both male and female, religious and lay
- in the archdiocese of Malta
- in the whole Church
- in the civil state of Malta
- in the whole world
2. The 4 Justice and Peace is not in any way affiliated to any
political order and will never take sides in any purely
political dispute.
The only workbook to be used is the Gospel as taught to
us by Christ and lived by Francis and Clare of
Assisi.
3. The 4 Justice and Peace
will endeavour with all the means at its disposal to
motivate all the franciscan forces on the island to
coordinate their efforts for a local and world society
which is just and peaceful.
- Moreover it will make it a special
assignment to open the local Church to such issues as
bird shooting and other indiscriminate fauna
destruction, as well as the unscrupulous exploitation
of land for building.
- On a lower level it will try to teach
young men and women how to appreciate the limited
resources of our island, and organize intelligent
"protests" where need be. These will take the form of
informing the public on the good things we are
advertently or inadvertently destroying.
4. The 4 Justice and Peace
will keep in touch with what is going on in these areas
at the international level and give its support to them
in any way possible. To this end it will try to expand
its communications via email and the internet, as well as
other conventional methods.
5. The 4 Justice and Peace
will continue to work with other secular and religious
institutions who are working for the same end even if we
reserve the right to use different means. It will
encourage the continued presence of our friars in the
parishes through the Franciscan
Visits which will, from now on,
include this new dimension of Justice and Peace and the
Integrity of Creation.
