(Archelaus) also magnificently rebuilt the royal palace in Jericho, and diverted half the water with which the village of Neara used to be watered, by making an acqueduct that drew off that water in the plain which he had planted with palm-groves: he also built a village, and called it Archelais. (Josephus, Ant. 17.3.2) |
