The Jordan Valley

7. Koreae - (al-Qarawa ?)

This road station on the way from Jericho to Scythopolis is represented by a gate between two towers, but the presence of a red pediment above the gate, suggests without any doubt a church.

Pompey ... when he had passed by Pella and Scythopolis, and had come to Corea, where you enter into the country of Judaea, when you go up to it by way of the interior, he heard that Aristobulus had fled to Alexandrium. (Josephus, War. 1.6.5)
