| The mosaic of the Cross
In area C to the west of the cella trichora, a cross was embedded in a dark background enclosed in a double line of white tesserae. The cross is made up by a double ended plait of black and white tesserae. The rather anomalous cross, placed at the centre of the floor might be referred back to the room being used as a place of cult in relation to the memorial to Moses shown to the pilgrim Aegeria (Itinerarium X). This hypothesis might explain the construction, at this exact point, of a platform surmounting the mosaic in the upper VI century Basilica
