Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Dan Halutz said Friday that the establishment of a Hamas government in the Palestinian Authority won't necessary lead to a rise in terror attacks.

"Hamas will want to prove that their image is unjustified, and will restrain itself," Halutz said at a Bar-Ilan University conference. He advised waiting and seeing how the Hamas government will act.

Responding to the launching of Qassam rockets at the western Negev on Friday, Halutz said, "We will respond to the Qassams in full, without crossing any lines."
