(HISTORIA Y MISIÓN DE A.N.S.H. )

FACTS:
- ANSH is an association of priestly fraternity and support for Hispanic
Priest in the USA, established in 1990 as a non profit Corporation.
- We have approximately 120 members from 42 dioceses and the number of
members is growing. There are around 2,500 Hispanic priests in the U.S.
and we would like to reach all of them.
- Our main activity has been an Annual National Convention. This year
we are having the 7th National Convention in Santa Rosa, California on
October 14-17, 1996.
- During these National Conventions we gather to enjoy priestly fraternity
and also to study a specific aspect of our priestly ministry.
- Some of the themes of our meetings have been: The Hispanic Priest and
the Family (1994), The Hispanic Priest and Immigration (1995) and this
year, Hispanic Priests and sects.
GOALS:
- To promote support groups similar to the one we have in the Diocese
of Galveston-Houston. Monthly meetings to pray and share.
- To offer regional retreats, workshops, courses of continuing education
in Spanish or English for Hispanic Priests.
- To conduct a professional study on Hispanic Priests and Seminarians:
Reality and Needs of the Hispanic Priests in the Third Millennium.
- To offer support to Hispanic Seminarians in accordance with Seminary
Rectors and Faculty.
- To promote vocations to the priesthood among the Hispanic community,
supporting the Diocesan offices of Vocations.
- To pray and ask for more Hispanic Bishops in the U.S. for the growing
needs of the Catholic Hispanic Community.
- To start and ANSH Newsletter for the communication and support of Hispanic
Priests.
- To work for the promotion of social justice among Hispanic Priests
and the Faithful in domestic and international matters according to the
teachings of the Church.
NEEDS:
- We want to continue to expand the support from the NCCB and especially
from the Office of Hispanic Affairs of the NCCB.
- We would like to be known by all Hispanic Priests and the Diocesan
Offices of Hispanic Ministry throughout the U.S.
- We want to learn from the Bishops how we can be of more help to them
in the service of Hispanic Priests and the Hispanic Community.
- We hope to obtain an increase financial support from various sources
to be able to minister to Hispanic Priests in the U.S.
